.../About CAPSA

Since the presentation of the first Conference on Asphalt Pavements for Southern Africa (CAPSA) in Durban in 1969, CAPSA has grown into one of the most prestigious conferences on road engineering both for the southern African region and the broader international fraternity.

CAPSA was held on a five yearly basis until the 2004 Conference in Sun City at the following venues:

1969 – Durban, South Africa
1974 – Durban, South Africa
1979 – Durban, South Africa
1984 – Cape Town, South Africa
1989 – Mbabane, Swaziland
1994 – Cape Town, South Africa
1999 – Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
2004 – Sun City, South Africa

Following the 2004 Conference, it was decided to bring CAPSA in line with the 4-yearly global calendar of conferences and an interim conference was held in Gaborone Botswana in 2007 to provide a local and international benchmark of best practice at that time against which future progress and developments in the industry can be measured. Since 1984, a policy of alternating conference venues between South Africa and other countries in the region was adopted.

Hence, the 10th CAPSA will be organised at a venue within South Africa and, following the first meeting of the CAPSA 11 Executive Committee, it is now possible to announce that the 10th CAPSA to be presented in 2011 will held from September 11 to 14 at the scenic Champagne Sports Resort nestling in the foothill of the magnificent Central Drakensberg mountain range in KwaZulu Natal and will be organised by the Asphalt Academy on behalf of Sabita.

Further details of CAPSA 11 will be posted on the web site in due course and will include the first announcement, call for papers (early 2010) and registration for the conference which is scheduled to open in January 2011.

“Capsa’11 will be registered for CPD validation.”
